The founders of the company, right Dr. Koenraad Vanhoutte (PhD, MSc, MBA) and left Jan Vanhoutte are running a team of international experts on micro-algae.
Algae are the cornerstones of life on earth. These micro-organisms capture energy from the sun and turn it into biomass. Micro-algae have a huge diversity (over 50,000 different types) and are 100% natural in all their forms. In this respect the cultivation of micro-algae is totally opposite to genetic modification. If grown on an industrial scale, the applications for micro-algae could include bio-fuel, aquaculture, health nutrition and cosmetics.
SBAE (Sustainable Bio-engineering for the Aquatic Environment) Industries was founded in 2006 by algae expert Koenraad Vanhoutte, PhD in Biology (University of Ghent) and Jan Vanhoutte. Scientific and industrial collaborators have been consciously chosen. SBAE Industries currently employs 15 Full Time Equivalents, five of whom are PhDs.
SBAE Industries has the unique capacity to produce a large range of algae in industrial quantities and using processes that are 100% natural and clean. The company plans to have a production capacity of 30 tons per year in 2009.
